The Song of the Gooney Bird

I don’t know how to fly
My wings won’t hold me ’cause I weigh too much
So I stumble around just as fast as I can
‘Cause I’m not made to walk like a man
Just to fly

Well now the Lord make the bird and he make the fish
He give the creatures a special wish
But I use mine up just staying alive
And I never give a thought just to ask how to fly

I flap my wings up high in the air
They keep going up but I go nowhere
So maybe someday I sit here bare
While I watch my poor wings fly up in the air
They’re singing

I don’t know how to fly
My wings won’t hold me ’cause I weigh too much
So I stumble around just as fast as I can
‘Cause I’m not made to walk like a man
Just to fly

Well I jump from cliffs and I fall to the ground
But I don’t get hurt, I’m safe and sound
I jump from trees off the highest limb
‘Cause it’s either fly me up or I must learn how to swim
(Blub blub blub blub blub)

And then someday when I do give up
I peck like the chicken and walk like duck
But till that day when I fall, DON”T PASS!!!
Because it do no good for us to meet like that
We’re Singing

I don’t know how to fly
My wings won’t hold me ’cause I weigh too much
So I stumble around just as fast as I can
‘Cause I’m not made to walk like a man
Just to fly
